Recently I was getting a model vetted from my girl friend! She saw a set of pivot tables and asked: How do you turn off the irritating GETPIVOTDATA function?

The GETPIVOTDATA function returns visible data from a PivotTable. In this example, =GETPIVOTDATA('Sales',A3) returns the total sales amount from a PivotTable: Syntax. GETPIVOTDATA(datafield, pivottable, field1, item1, field2, item2.) The GETPIVOTDATA function syntax has the following arguments. If you're using Excel for Mac 2011 and earlier, the PivotTable button is on the Data tab in the Analysis group. Excel will display the Create PivotTable dialog with your range or table name selected. In this case, we're using a table called 'tblHouseholdExpenses'.

What if I am suppose to calculate profitability % (i.e. Profit / Sales). Two simple ways to do it
Use a simple formula in the adjacent cell (i.e. Profit / Sales)

In the formulas tab un-check the GETPIVOTDATA function
Now enjoy uninterrupted cell references
